Free Google Ads Audit Scorecard

Answer 16 quick questions about your Google Ads account and see where money is most likely being wasted, with a clear fix for each gap. It takes about three minutes, needs no login, and your answers stay on this page unless you ask us to review your account.

Conversion tracking

Are form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks tracked as conversions in Google Ads?

Without real conversions, Google's bidding optimises for clicks, and you can't tell good campaigns from bad ones.

Do only genuine leads count as primary conversions (not page views or scrolls)?

Counting page views or time on site as conversions tells Smart Bidding to find more of the wrong people.

Is Google Ads linked to Google Analytics 4 with auto-tagging on?

Linking lets you see what ad visitors do on the site and import GA4 key events; auto-tagging keeps click data accurate.

Targeting and structure

Is location targeting set to people in or regularly in your area (not "presence or interest")?

"Presence or interest" can show ads to people outside your service area who have only searched about it.

Are Search Partners and the Display Network switched off in your Search campaigns (unless you tested them)?

Display placements in a Search campaign often bring cheap, low-intent clicks that rarely become leads.

Are campaigns or ad groups split by service, with budgets set per service?

Mixing services in one ad group means generic ads, mixed landing pages and one budget that the cheapest service uses up.

Keywords and search terms

Do you review the search terms report at least every two weeks?

The search terms report shows what people actually typed. Irrelevant searches are one of the most common sources of wasted spend.

Do you have a negative keyword list for jobs, free, courses, DIY and other searches you never want?

Searches like "SEO jobs" or "free website builder" match service keywords but never become customers.

If you use broad match keywords, do those campaigns use Smart Bidding with reliable conversion tracking?

Broad match relies on Smart Bidding and conversion signals to stay relevant; without them it can match loosely related searches.

Ads and landing pages

Do ads send people to a page about that specific service (not your home page)?

Visitors who searched for one service and land on a general home page often leave before finding what they wanted.

Do those landing pages load quickly on a phone and have a short form or tap-to-call button?

Most search clicks come from mobile. Slow pages and long forms lose people who were ready to enquire.

Does each ad group have a responsive search ad with specific headlines, plus sitelinks, callouts and a call asset?

Specific headlines and assets make ads larger and more relevant, which usually improves click-through rate.

Budget, bidding and results

Does your bid strategy match your data (conversion-based bidding only once conversions are tracked reliably)?

Maximise conversions or target CPA without trustworthy conversion data optimises towards noise.

Have you checked whether your best campaigns are "Limited by budget" while weaker ones spend freely?

Budget spread evenly across campaigns starves the ones producing leads at the lowest cost.

Do you know your cost per lead, and how many of those leads became customers?

Without cost per lead and close rate, you can't tell whether Google Ads is profitable or how much you can afford to spend.

Is the Google Ads account owned by your business, with admin access you control?

If an agency or freelancer owns the account, you can lose the history and data if you change supplier.
