How AI Search Chooses Sources: An Evidence-First Checklist
AI-assisted answers are not a new shortcut around trust. They still need clear entities, useful pages, and evidence a reader can inspect.
Published 26 October 2026 · Practical guide, not a promise of rankings or inclusion.
Start with the question, not a buzzword
Write down the real buyer question your page should answer. Then identify the product, market, audience, and constraints that must be present for the answer to be useful. This prevents a vague “AI visibility” project from becoming a list of cosmetic edits.
Make the source inspectable
Give important statements a stable URL, a clear heading, an accountable author or organisation, a date where freshness matters, and links to supporting material. Separate what you observed from what you infer, and label examples that are illustrative.
Test the answer like a buyer
Ask several natural-language questions, record the exact wording and date, and compare the answer with the source pages you control. Treat inclusion as an observation, not a ranking promise. Repeat after meaningful content or technical changes.
